Mary Ann Banaszewski, 82, of Naples, New York, passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of October 27, 2025.
Born on May 11, 1943, in Schenectady, New York, she was the daughter of Edward and Catherine (Meehan) Fitzner. She grew up alongside her beloved younger brother, John Fitzner (Alice), who preceded her in death in September 2021.
Mary Ann graduated from Bryant University and later earned a master’s degree from SUNY Geneseo. After moving to Naples in 1968, shortly after the birth of her son, Mark, she began a rewarding career in education. She served as a teacher at Naples Central School and later as an administrator in various schools, where she was deeply respected for her dedication, kindness, and commitment to students.
Beyond her professional life, Mary Ann cherished her time spent at the family camp on the Hudson River in Corinth, New York; sharing time with her many friends and her partner, David Guile; volunteering with the Naples Historical Society; and tending to her beautiful flowers. Her warmth, sense of humor, and generosity touched everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Mark Banaszewski (Amy); her granddaughter, Summer Banaszewski; her partner of 30 years, David Guile; and her former husband, William Banaszewski.
She will be missed dearly by her family, many friends, and the amazing caregivers who provided such compassionate support in her final years.
A celebration of Mary Ann’s life will be held in the spring or summer of 2026. Details will be shared with family and friends once arrangements are made.
