Ellen “Ducky” Shurgot passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 28th. Survived by son, Lucas; sister, Kathleen; brother-in-law,Rick; nephews, Jeremy and Shane, nieces, Tessa and Aubrey: step brothers, Martin Haase, Donald Haase Jr. and his sons, Jacob and Zachary; step brother, Don Bavis and stepsisters, Sue Huchinson, Kelly VanParys, and Beth Saucer and their families, and many loving friends. Predeceased by mother, Carol Haase, father, Marvin Shurgot, and stepmother, Diane Shurgot, and stepbrother, Ken Haase.

Ellen was a loving mother, irreplaceable friend, the “fun aunt,” and a lifelong lover of the Grateful Dead. She was surrounded by a village of loved ones who loved her as dearly and as fiercely as she loved them. She loved bringing joy to others, her kitties, live music, and cheering on her son, Lucas, every chance she could. She was so proud to be Lucas’ mom and it was a role she honored and cherished. Her “chosen family” of many, many friends were sunshine and her “left-handed ladies” were her rock. She will be deeply missed. Get some good rest, El. You were so loved.

The calling hours will be 1-3pm on Sunday, August 2nd at Jarmusz Cotton Funeral Home, 26 Maple Avenue in Victor, NY. Following the calling hours will be a celebration of life at the East Area Shelter at Powder Mill Park from 4pm-7pm.
