Muriel Nado, 93, passed away peacefully, September 4, 2025, at home surrounded by her family.
Muriel was a quintessential “Mainer”, born 1931 in Saco,ME, moved to Victor, NY in 1957 and has resided here ever since. She was fiercely independent, out and about everyday and plugged into Victor life.
She graduated from Thornton Academy, Saco, ME in 1951. In which she attended annual class reunions right up until a few years ago. As a lettered athlete in Basketball and field hockey, she had earned the nickname, Sport. She attended Westbrook College and shortly there after, she took the Civil Service test. She was hired at the Army Ordinance Plant in Saco as a parts and packing inspector for the machine guns that were made there, and still are.
She met and married the love of her life, Kenneth Nado. They raised their family in Victor, NY which included many trips annually back to the homeland of Maine.
In 1969 Muriel went to work for the Victor Post Office and retired in 1996.
The many interests of Muriel included, hunting from the age of 11, tennis, golf (with many eagles), Pickleball, snowmobiling, x-country skiing, gardening, early American stencil ware, furniture restoration, fly fishing and international travel. Shortly after China opened their borders to the world, Muriel was very proud to be with the first wave of tourists visiting. That visit gave her the travel bug which led to visits to Scotland, New Zealand and other European countries ensued.

HSEAD (The Historical Society of Early American Decorations) where she was a lifetime member after joining in 1968, Victor Kiwanis Club, Valentown Historical Society, Victor Garden Club. She was very active with Victor Senior Center, local bridge group, both Victor and Mendon Presbyterian Churches, and volunteered driving Seniors to appointments. The Victor Historical Society will greatly miss Murial at Historic Valentown Museum. Her support of us and the museum meant a lot to us. When you volunteer your time for something like our site, it is so nice to see a familiar face and just talk. Suddenly, those hours of volunteering are balanced out by a person by just being there. Her advice was also much appreciated. Elders are among us for a reason. They can recall past events but people like Murial pushed them forward to the now and made it connect to us. Thank you, Murial, for sharing your time with us.
I just heard this terrible news about Muriel and am devastated. I knew her from HSEAD, the Florence Wright chapter, and from doing her taxes. She was such a dear & a beautiful painter. She had a lot of energy for 93 and I especially enjoyed our conversations on many topics: shared interests in HSEAD, Postal Service & politics. I will miss her & would have attended the calling hours. May God rest her beautiful soul.
