Kylander, Ruth Mae

FAIRPORT, NY

May 27, 2022

Ruth Mae Kylander, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 after a lengthy illness.   Ruth was an only child of Ethel and Theophilus Davies.  She is survived by Roy, her loving husband of 68 years, Children Roy “Rick” (Marcene) of San Clemente, CA, Karen Dupra (Steve) of Fairport, NY, Cheryl Putney (Mike) of Cranberry Twp. PA.  Ruth was also survived by loving grandchildren, Sara Wagner (Chris) of Ontario, NY, David Dupra (Jennica) of Fairport, NY, Raquel and Jessica Kylander, Michelle, Tommy and Steven Putney and two great grandchildren, Kayla and Logan Wagner.

Ruth was born and raised in West Pittston, PA where she met and married her high school sweetheart.  Her relationship with Roy was one of love that only grew stronger over the years.  After starting their family in the Pittsburgh, PA area Ruth and Roy eventually settled in Fairport during the early 70’s to begin a retail greeting card business.  Ruth worked in the family stores but her greatest ambition, accomplished role and pride was that of a wife, mother and grandmother.

Ruth loved travelling in the family RV and gravitated to anywhere near the ocean.  She was quite fond of dining out with Roy which may have coincidentally led to years of volunteering at Meals on Wheels. Ruth will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, humility, caring and positive outlook on life.  Although her illness diminished her memory, she maintained acute recall of facts and dates of decades past.  Ruth never let an occasion or opportunity go by without a hand-written Hallmark card.  She was passionate about making memories for her kids and their children.  Birthdays, holidays and family celebrations were always big events with Ruth hosting and feeding family and friends.  She never desired to be the “brick” of the family, but she was always the “mortar” that kept everything together.

Ruth will be interned privately at White Haven Memorial Park.  No services are planned and the family is asking, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made in her memory to the charity of your choosing.  A special thank you is extended to the Crest Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center in Fairport, NY for the care and compassion they extended to Ruth these past two years.
