Herman James “Jim” Wagner, of Victor, New York, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025, at the age of 90. Jim was born on December 17, 1934, in Dickinson, North Dakota, to Frank and Elizabeth (Boehm) Wagner. He was one of 15 children. His family later moved to Laurel, Montana, where he graduated from high school. Jim attended Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, and went on to enjoy a long and successful engineering career with Mountain Bell and AT&T.

Jim brought energy, kindness, and quiet strength to everything he did. His greatest joy in life was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Eleanor Wagner. Together, they were true partners in life and treasured every moment spent side by side. He was predeceased by his daughter, Theresa Wagner. Her daughter, Elizabeth McReynolds, survives him, along with his great-granddaughters, Chloe and Paisley. He is also survived by his daughter, Julie Ferguson (Harry Peterson), and grandchildren, William Ferguson and Emily Ferguson; and by his son, Dan Wagner (Kathleen), and grandsons, James, Thomas, and Michael.

Jim had a very loving extended family, many of whom live in the West. They were a meaningful and joyful part of his life, and he deeply valued the time he spent with them. He loved performing in community musical theater productions with Eleanor and their family, taking the stage in cities from Boise to Albuquerque to Parker, Colorado. He was also an avid golfer and especially enjoyed visits to the casino with Eleanor—trips always full of fun and laughter (even though he usually only made money from his cut of Ellie’s jackpots).

Jim will be remembered for his warm heart, gentle presence, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed. A memorial gathering will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to Light Hill (Canandaigua Comfort Care Home) in Canandaigua, New York, in appreciation of their extraordinary care in his final days.
