Lois J.H. Morley

Victor, NY

Passed away on November 14, 2023 at age 90.

Lois Jean Harvey was born on May 25, 1933 to Helen Nancy Deal Harvey and Kenneth Fay Harvey in Flint, MI.  Her family, which consisted of an older brother, two older sisters and a younger brother, lived very modestly.  Her father believed that to be good to someone you had to feed them.  Her mother was a great seamstress and industrious.  These were attributes Lois incorporated into her life.  Lois married Dale Samuel Morley on February 25, 1952 when she was 18 and he was 21.  This set Lois on a new path and would change her life from the limited existence she had growing up to be full of travel, making new friends, and varied life experiences. Together they would live in CA, MI, and mostly NY.  After trying unsuccessfully for a few years, Lois and Dale were both overjoyed and overwhelmed to welcome 4 children in 5 years into their family.  While in this state of much commotion at home, they were blessed to be introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They joined the Church which became a huge blessing and focus of their lives. After a 5 year break, they went on to have 2 boys in two years and then took a 5 year break before having the last girl.

Over the years, Lois has often engaged in making crafts.  She has made Cabbage Patch type dolls, porcelain dolls, Pound Puppies, all sorts of items with plastic canvas, knitted and crocheted blankets, hats, thousands of quilts, gingerbread houses, cookie trains, and various clothing items including wedding dresses and the list could go on. Lois even made the liner for her and Dale’s caskets that he had built for them. She loved to travel and truly experience the local flavor of wherever she was. Dale and Lois traveled for 15 years straight in their motorhome. She enjoyed fishing with Dale.  She delighted in gardening and did a lot of food preservation through dehydration, freezing, and canning. Lois also loved animals.  Over the years she has enjoyed having cats, dogs, goats, horses, chickens, turkeys, sheep, a chinchilla, hamsters, gerbils, a turtle, and fish.  Lois and Dale had 61 years full of adventures before he passed away in 2013.

She was a hard worker that seemed like she had endless energy.  She enjoyed cooking and shared many meals with others.  She engaged in a lot of genealogy research.  She and Dale served three separate missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; Martins Cove, WY, they managed the Bishop’s Storehouse which provides welfare items, and served as caretakers for apartments for missionaries. In her later years, she made over 3000 quilts that she donated to various places such as Saints Place, hospitals, animal shelters, and individuals.

Lois leaves behind a legacy of selfless service, frugality, and hard work.  She was a faithful woman who felt the guiding hand of her Lord and Savior.  She didn’t feel noticed or important but her good works have benefited thousands of her brothers and sisters from all over the world.  We love her very much and will miss her, not to mention her fresh homemade bread! Her legacy includes her 7 children:  Cindy (Tim) Whitcomb, Mike (Diane) Morley, Marie (Wayne) Herrmann, Patricia (Paul) Rowe,  Robert Morley, Chris (Donna) Morley, Tabatha (Jan) Fugal  along with 26 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

A celebration of Lois’ life will be held Saturday November 18th 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (460 Kreag Road, Pittsford, NY). Family will receive friends at 12:30 p.m. following the funeral service at the church.  Interment Rice Cemetery Bloomfield, NY . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Serenity House of Victor (1278 Brace Rd Victor, NY 14564) in her memory.
