Paul W Duerr Sr., 85, died peacefully at his home with his wife of 61 years by his side on August 24, 2020 following a very courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn M Duerr; two sons Paul W. Duerr, Jr and wife Carol of Conesus, NY and Troy C. Duerr and wife Melissa of Naples, NY; by five grandchildren, Justin, Casey, Stephanie, Allison, Jonah; three great grandchildren; sister-in laws Maryann Bates and Beverly Adams; and three nephews, Ray, Roy and Shawn. Paul was predeceased by brothers-in-law Charles “Chuck” Bates and George Adams.
Paul enlisted in the Army in 1954 serving in Korea and Germany. During his 16 years he earned many awards and honors. After the Army, he worked at Eastman Kodak. Both Paul and Marilyn worked at his son’s metal fabrication shop, Avalanche Fabrication for many years.
Paul and Marilyn loved to camp. Their most epic trip was to California and then onto Alaska. Many nights on their trip was spent in a tent, between wanting to have a great adventure and their frugality they challenged each other to minimize using motels. He also loved to play cards and spend time with his family.
Above all else Paul was a great role model for his family. He was able to make everyone feel loved and welcomed into our family. We will have a hard time matching his ability to have such a giving heart and ability to use humor and practical jokes to express love like he did. We were blessed to have him guide our family and show us what true love looks like.
A celebration of his of his life will be held on Saturday September 5th, please contact family or leave a comment below for details.
