Ronald James Platten, 88, of Victor, NY passed away in the wee hours of June 2nd, 2025, after a swift illness but a voluptuous life. Born October 8th, 1936 to Vincent and Dorothy (Dot) in the rurals of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Ron worked hard from an early age to achieve his goals. No job was too odd to work, no problem too tricky to solve, no pun too dastardly to share. From the pickle factory to the programming industry, Ronald was no stranger to swing shifts and rolling his sleeves up to get things done. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from RIT by attending night courses despite working full-time to provide for his family–a feat which took him nearly a decade to accomplish. What can we say? He didn’t like to be bored, and he was a stubborn man to the end.

When he wasn’t working he was plotting his next big adventure, be it on the RV or the sailboat. Many years were spent snowbirding to Florida with his partner in crime–his wife of 66 years, Judy. Together they invested in traveling and fellowship, staying in touch over the decades with multitudes of friends who were always ready for a visit. Ronald rarely met a stranger he couldn’t turn into a friend and knew someone just about everywhere he went (including at the candy store in the mall).

His legacy survives in the form of his sons, Daniel, David (Maria), and Thomas Platten, his daughters Theresa (Scott) Ferguson and Carolyn (Jim) Marasco,  his rabble of grand and great-grandchildren, of whom there are twenty-four all combined, and his life-long friend, Jerry Hodges.

He goes to be with his beloved Judy, whose presence he missed profoundly; his eldest son, John, of whom he was so proud; and his granddaughter, Maria, who inherited his playful sense of humor. Our lives will be far less full of laughter without him, but Ronald is free of commercials during Ice Road Truckers at last, and that is something to celebrate! We would love to share memories at calling hours and invite you to bring your best dad joke in tow in honor of Ron, who would never miss a party. We’re sure he’ll be listening.

Calling hours will be held Friday June 6th 4-7p.m. at Jarmusz Cotton Funeral Home (26 Maple Ave. Victor, NY). Ronald’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday June 7th 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Resurrection (63 Mason Rd Fairport, NY). Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
