Yvonne “Bonnie” Smith, 84, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025 in Penn Yan.

Born February 12, 1941, Bonnie graduated from Arkport Central School in 1958. She earned an AAS in Dental Hygiene from Erie CC in 1960. Later after having her 2 children she received a BS in Education from Cortland State in 1969. While working full time teaching and taking care of her family she earned her Master’s degree in Education from Geneseo State in 1976.

Bonnie began her career as a dental hygienist at Wayland Central School before transitioning to teaching. She served as an elementary teacher at Bryant and North Hornell Schools for over 40 years where she touched the lives of many students and colleagues.

Bonnie is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 64 years, Thurlow Smith; Son, Scott (Dana) Smith; Daughter, Lori (Thomas) Corrigan; three beloved grandchildren, Douglas (Bailey) Smith, Sheridan Corrigan and Nolan Corrigan; and two great grandchildren.

Bonnie was predeceased by her parents, Floyd and Elizabeth Kame of Texas; brother, Max Kame; and sister, Nancy Willard.

Bonnie will be remembered for her strong work ethic, incredible memory, her generous spirit, hospitality and love of family. A woman of many talents and interests, Bonnie enjoyed decorative painting, sewing, gardening, learning, reading, baking and volunteering in her community. Her faith was important to her throughout life, she was a member of Buena Vista Wesleyan Church and after moving to Keuka Lake the Lake Keuka Baptist Church.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 – 11:00 a.m. at Webb’s Crossing Bible Church, 7528 North Main Street Ext., Hornell, NY. Please join us to honor her life and legacy.
