Emmy L. Gelb
Victor, NY
Passed away on October 25, 2021 at the age of 91.
She is predeceased by her husband Marvin and survived by children Nancy (Kirk) Bethel and Eric (Toni) Baller, grandchildren Laura Ferrari, Monica Smith, and Kendall, Mitchell and Jacob Baller, along with great-grandchildren Philip Giacobbe, Tyler Smith, and Daniella Ferrari.
Born in Bad Homburg, Germany, on May 1, 1930, Emmi spent much of her childhood surrounded by family in nearby Obernhain, where both her parents grew up. She emigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1952 and married Ernst Baller that June. Emmi and Ernie travelled extensively throughout Canada and the United States. They moved to Toronto, then emigrated again, now with two children, to the United States in 1965 and eventually settled in Webster, NY. Emmy devoted many years to raising her family.
Completing her Bachelors degree in Business and Finance in 1982, she eventually worked for Pittsford Animal Hospital as Business Manager/Controller as they grew to nine area locations. In 1993 she married Marv Gelb and they built a home in Perinton, where they often welcomed their grandchildren for babysitting and coveted sleepovers. They then moved to Victor.
She loved animals – especially cats. Summers were spent taking her children and grandchildren fruit picking so she could make jams and pies – which she learned about in Canada. There was always something freshly baked in her kitchen for “coffee” in the afternoons. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, and had a goal “to have one of my grandchildren love to garden”
Calling hours will be Thursday October 28th 4-6 p.m. at Jarmusz Cotton Funeral Home (26 Maple Ave. Victor, NY). A Funeral Service will be held Friday October 29th 10 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church (888 County Road 9 Victor, NY). Interment Boughton Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Lollypop Farms.
