THE BOOKSHOP
In this quiet place
I sit alone and wait
Undulating in and out of time
All the beginnings
And all the endings
Strung out along the clamoring road
Within this cool dim stillness
Dusty shelves stretch row after row
Each holding faint scented secrets
The bones and shards
Of lines lined out
As well as possible

I just saw this by chance, and feel so sad. I knew Ruth when I lived in New York from 1967-69. Her son Jason and my daughter were both babies, and we were part of a group of four mothers who formed a babysitting pool four afternoons a week. I remember Ruth and George so well, so much spirit and humour, such lovely people. If you read this Jason, my sincerest condolences to you and all your family. I remember you as a very high-spirited toddler! I hope life has bien good to you. Best wishes.
