David W. Turner
David William Turner of Ontario, NY, age 59, passed away on August 6, 2019.
David is survived by his parents, George P and Dorothy (Murray) Turner of Webster, NY; brother Jay of Webster; brother John and John’s partner Diana Annese of Beverly, MA. He is also survived by his domestic partner of 22 years, Suzanne States.
David was a 1978 graduate of R. L. Thomas High School in Webster, and earned an Associates degree in Optics from Monroe Community College.
David loved his job as a Sr Manufacturing Engineer at the University of Rochester Laboratory for Laser Energetics, where he worked for 22 years, and he was part of the team that built the Omega laser.
David was an accomplished musician, playing bass and guitar. In the late 90’s he played bass for local rock band Tin Can Sailor. He enjoyed recording and mixing music, and worked in the past as the sound and light man for local bands Cappy and The Frenchman, and The Tinglers.
David loved baking and cooking, and frequently took his creations into work, to the delight of his co-workers. He enjoyed traveling and was an award-winning amateur photographer. David also enjoyed hunting for deer every fall, and played daily with his dogs, Bailey and Floki. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of films and rock and pop music history; and kept up to date on current events and politics.
He had a great sense of humor, loved puns; and the sounds of his laughter were hilarious. When he laughed, everyone who heard him laughed too.
A private celebration of life will be held September 26 for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in David’s name to Lollypop Farm.
